In an effort to cleanse the web spam, Google launched yet another algorithm called Penguin update, after the much effective Google Panda. Apparently, Penguin has brought SEOs to their feet. Although Google claims that only 3.1 percent websites are affected, many surveys indicate the impact on a large scale.

In the recent Google Webmaster blog, Matt Cuts – head of Google anti spam team – explained “The change will decrease rankings for sites that we believe are violating Google’s existing quality guidelines.” Along with this, the company promotes 100 percent White hat SEO practices to rank better on its search engine.

Apparently, Google is aggressive to remove web spam and enrich user experience. In his blog, Matt Cuts asked to build a site that would naturally get good signals and doesn’t look over optimized; but how to judge the level of optimization?

In a reply, GMI – a leading company providing IT services since many years and has its roots well-penetrated in the IT sector – suggested that having a right amount of SEO comes with experience and skills. The Biz2Credit Small Business Lending Index, an analysis of 1,000 loan applications on Biz2Credit.com, found that loan approvals by big banks dropped from 10.9% in March to 10.6% in April and from the 11.6% approval rate last March. Additionally, small bank lending fell from 47.6% in March to 45.9% in April 2012.

Loan approvals made by credit unions decreased by 0.5% to 46.6% at a time when they are making a push to increase the lending limit to 27.5% of their assets. Alternate lenders remained flat as lower interest rate products have increasingly been introduced into the marketplace.

Another sign of the slowing economy is that the overall demand for small business loans in April was down by 5.4% , slipping for the first time in a year. Further, the 12-month window for SBA’s enhanced 90% loan guarantees concluded, which slowed SBA lending activity reported by banks that make SBA-backed loans. Additionally, the guarantee fee (usually 1-3 % of the loan amount) was no longer waived, which increases the cost of taking out a loan.

“The 90% guarantee fee in place for loan approvals granted between Sept 2010 to March 2011 were valid for 12 months. April 2012 was the first month of 75% guarantees combined with assessment of the 1-3% fee, explained Rohit Arora, CEO of Biz2Credit, who oversaw the research. “This played a big part in the drop in loan demand and the reduced willingness of banks to grant funding requests.”

“The disappointing April jobs report in which only 115,000 new jobs were created, and when the expectation was much higher, is an indication that the economy is slowing down. High oil prices as well as the European crisis intensifying have combined to cause both borrowers and lenders to proceed with caution,” Arora added. ” The flow of capital may be slowing, which is a cause of concern.”

* Credit Unions are considered a category unto themselves in the Biz2Credit Small Biz Lending Index.

Of all the categories of small business lenders, credit unions and alternative lenders (accounts receivable financers, merchant cash advance lenders, Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI), micro lenders, and others) approve more than 50% of loan requests. Small bank lending dropped to its lowest level since September 2011. Big banks, still tight in their loan parameters, reject almost 9 out of 10 small business loan requests.

Biz2Credit’s analysis also found that loan request amounts ranged from $25,000 to $3 million; that the average credit score was above 680, and that average-time-in-business was slightly more than two years.

Unlike other surveys, the results are based on primary data submitted by more than 1,000 small business owners who applied for funding on Biz2Credit’s online lending platform.

This is where it all started becoming more serious, and by that time Carl was very drawn into it too. So we decided to give it a shot and make our passion into fashion. “Although the small business lending landscape has improved since the dark days of 2009-10, it is by no means easy to secure franchise financing. Getting a small business loan to open a franchise can often be a challenge. After a successful career in advertising, Eric McCarthy wanted to try his hand at operating a small business. He researched franchise opportunities in the greater Phoenix area, and sought a globally recognized brand that would appeal to international travelers who would visit the area to see the Grand Canyon. Baskin Robbins had that name recognition, and McCarthy began the process of acquiring four locations in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Chandler, and Gilbert, Arizona.

However, because of the small business credit crunch, he was mistaken. While many banks claimed to be “ready to lend,” that they simply weren’t interested in giving money to small business owners. He was turned down time after time, often over the phone, without being given the opportunity for a face-to-face meeting.

“I was shocked,” says McCarthy, “my personal business experience and cash deposits counted for nothing. I didn’t have franchise experience, so their answer was no.”

While conducting his research into franchise opportunities, McCarthy was intrigued by Biz2Credit’s expertise in helping small businesses find financing. Having reached his breaking point with the big banks’ steady refusals, he contacted the online credit marketplace.

The Biz2Credit Small Business Lending Index, which tracks loan approval rates for entrepreneurs on a monthly basis, reported that in March 2012, credit unions granted 57.9% of loan requests. Meanwhile, big banks (with assets of $10B+) approved only 10.9% of small business applicants.

“I wish I had done it earlier, it would have speeded up opening the shops,” he said. “They guided me through the entire process, worked up a business plan, identified my goals, presented my financials. I can’t say enough about Biz2Credit. They never gave up, and they never stopped working for me.”

The Biz2Credit Small Business Lending Index, an analysis of 1,000 loan applications on Biz2credit.com, found that loan approvals by big banks dropped to 10.9% from the 11.7% figure reported in February (a 6.8% decline over a one-month period) and from the 11.6% approval rate last March. Meanwhile, small bank lending remained flat at a 47.6% approval rate in March 2012.

Alternate lenders picked up by 0.5% to a 63% approval rate as lower interest rate products have increasingly been introduced into the marketplace. Loans made by credit unions increased 0.1% to a 57.9% approval rate at a time when Senator Mark Udall (D-CO) introduced legislation that would raise the cap on credit unions’ loan-making from 12.25% to 27.5% of their assets. Senate members are expected to vote on the bill in April.

“The disappointing March jobs report in which only 120,000 new jobs were created — when the expectation was much higher — shows that we’re not out of the woods yet. The rising price of oil will make both borrowers and lenders proceed with caution. Overall, the availability of small business capital has improved over the past 12 months, which is always a good sign, but the flow of capital may be slowing, which is a cause of concern,” Arora added.

Biz2Credit’s analysis also found that loan request amounts ranged from $25,000 to $3 million; that the average credit score was above 680, and that average-time-in-business was slightly more than two years.

Unlike other surveys, the results are based on primary data submitted by more than 1,000 small business owners who applied for funding on Biz2Credit’s online lending platform.
