By the time Ferrari started the Series II they wanted significant changes in its design so that the Series II could be easily differentiated from the California Spider. It was also made more practical for grand touring with a more accommodating and luxurious interior and a larger boot. The car had the latest Colombo 128F V-12 engine with outside plugs, coil valve-springs and 12-port cylinder heads which produced 240 horsepower. Other performance attributes were improved as well, since the Series II was also equipped with disc brakes and a new four-speed gearbox with overdrive. Production started in late 1959 and lasted until 1962. During this time the Series II Cabriolet was the most expensive car in the 250 GT range. In fact, this car was such a success that a new generation soft-top Ferrari was not introduced until 1964. In total, 201 Series II Ferrari 250 GT Pininfarina Cabriolets were produced.

Dubai – A morbidly obese woman died following a “tummy tuck” cosmetic procedure that removed nearly 51 pounds of fat and skin from her stomach, according to a Dubai court hearing today.

The 39-year-old mother apparently knew this type of surgery would be more risky for her because of her obesity, but chose to have it anyway. The procedure, technically called an abdominoplasty, firms the stomach by removing extra fat and skin.

The woman’s 39-year-old plastic surgeon and 46-year-old anesthetist faced charges at the Dubai Court of Misdemeanors for the woman’s death. The anesthetist pleaded not guilty, while the surgeon failed to appear. The surgeon had previously claimed to be innocent.

After the operation, which took place in June 2010, the woman experienced severe chest pain along with shortness of breath. She was taken into intensive care and, despite resuscitation efforts, was declared dead the next morning.

The anesthetist claims he warned the surgeon not to do the procedure on the obese patient, but he chose to do so anyway.
