On September 27, 2010 at the National Press Club in Washington, DC a press conference was held in which testimony regarding incidents of weapons tampering by unidentified craft was presented to the media. The witnesses in attendance were all former U. S. Air Force personnel and included Lt. Col. Dwynne Arneson, Capt. Bruce Fenstermacher, Col. Charles Halt, Capt. Robert Jamison, Patrick McDonough, 1st Lt. Jerome Nelson, and Capt. Robert Salas. Most of these witnesses have held high security clearance.

Leading the press conference was the principal researcher developing these testimonies, Robert Hastings, author of the important book, UFOs and Nukes: Extraordinary Encounters at Nuclear Weapons Sites. In addition to the press conference attendees, scores of other witnesses, mostly military, have provided further testimony to Hastings during his research.

One of the incidents addressed took place at a Malmstrom Air Force Base nuclear missile launch complex in March of 1967. Former ICBM launch officer Salas testified to missiles being shut down in silo after a craft of unknown origin hovered directly over the complex. Other testimony dealt with the 1980 RAF Bentwaters base incident in the United Kingdom.

San Diego and Imperial Valley Regional Forum to Focus on Developing Catalytic Strategies
Opinion leaders and policy makers from across region join forces to set legislative priorities.

What: The California Stewardship Network and California Forward will host the San Diego and Imperial Valley Regional Forum with local business organizations to help set priorities for a state action plan promoting job growth and competitiveness in the region. Ohio Revised Code Section 307.86 requires that any purchases in excess of $25,000 be subjected to a public bidding process. Van Treuren pointed to records that show the Lorain County Commissioners have routinely approved more than $25,000 in expenditures for Technivision video filming and editing.

“I’m not suggesting that the Lorain County Commissioners are purposely violating the Ohio Revised Code,” Van Treuren said, “but six years in a row of exceeding the spending limits creates the impression that they are sidestepping the law. This might simply be a case of carelessness, but it’s hard to believe that no one has noticed it yet.”

According to public county records, the amounts approved for Technivision by the commissioners were $28,785 in the year 2007; $28,000 in the year 2008; $28,000 in the year 2009; and $28,000 in the year 2010. In 2011, the total amount of taxpayer funds spent on Technivision was $25,800, which is also in excess of the limit.

Ohio Revised Code section 307.86, which governs competitive bidding requirements for boards of county commissioners, states the following:

“Anything to be purchased, leased, leased with an option or agreement to purchase, or constructed, including, but not limited to, any product, structure, construction, reconstruction, improvement, maintenance, repair, or service, except the services of an accountant, architect, attorney at law, physician, professional engineer, construction project manager, consultant, surveyor, or appraiser, by or on behalf of the county or contracting authority, as defined in section 307.92 of the Revised Code, at a cost in excess of twenty-five thousand dollars . . . shall be obtained through competitive bidding.”

Van Treuren said that the law is clear, and that this oversight adds to a narrative that taxpayer money isn’t being spent responsibly by the Lorain County Commissioners.

“These expenditures simply do not qualify as emergencies, and a real pattern of careless spending and disrespect for taxpayer dollars is starting to emerge here,” Van Treuren said. “The public bidding requirement is in place for an important reason: because it often results in saving taxpayer money. I’m calling on the commissioners to start taking this requirement seriously.”

Sassy Scrubs Remembers

When medics on the front lines serve in areas such as the Middle East, they have limited access to supplies; particularly, new medical uniforms. Because of this supply deficiency, as well as a lack of laundry facilities to care for the uniforms they do have, the need for scrubs for themselves – and often for their patients – is real and immediate. Sassy Scrubs President, Karen Bradley states, “We were honored to be asked to assist in this project, and we are committed to contributing whatever we can to assist our medical units treating America’s own.” Scrubs items are also requested by US troop hospitals in Germany and the Middle East for use by staff and patients, who use the scrub pants as comfortable sleepwear.

Another regular need which has been met by Sassy Scrubs in the past is patriotic themed med bags, for storage of patient personal effects, records, and medications as they are transported from field to hospital. To lift spirits at the holidays, Sassy Scrubs has also worked to send Christmas Stockings, which have been requested, to the service members who’ll be visiting the overseas hospitals at holiday time.

When asked if she had a message for our military medical personnel who wear scrubs, Karen Bradley thoughtfully shares, “Well, my personal motto is to ‘Think positively and move in a forward direction,’ so I’d expand that to our military medical people into ‘Keep your spirits up, think positively, and do the best job you can do.’ That, along with wishing them a safe journey through this aspect of their lives; and also sharing my respect for the commitment they have for their work and country.”
