Email Spam Protection & Visitor Stats

Spam Protection

Any links to email addresses contained in press releases are obfuscated, or displayed in such a way to prevent email harvesting spambots from collecting email addresses from your press release. We bet you already get “enough” spam anyhow, so what’s the sense in making it easy for the spammers to send you more of their junk!

Rest assured that the “mail-to” email links in your press release are clickable (letting your readers click the link and easily send you email) – but the visible email address is malformed; the “@” symbol has been replaced with “[at]” and with the “.” has been replaced by “[dot]“. Visitors who want to send you email will have to correct the email address that appears malformed in their email program, but we believe that most such visitors make the needed corrections easily.

It’s likely that a few spambots are programmed so they are able to find and correct for things like the aforementioned malformation. So… we’ve provided another layer of protection by obfuscating the email links by an additional method.

Usually, the webpage’s html source code reveals the human-readable characters of the email link – in other words, the email address is easily readable in the source code, and therefore, to spambots. But the FreePressReleases.com system replaces each human-readable alphanumeric character in the email link with the equivalent hexadecimal code, making it less likely that the spambots will successfully harvest your email.

Visitor Statistics

The view counter, which appears at the bottom of each press release, simply counts the number of visits anyone makes to your press release page. You can use this feature to keep track of how many new visitors have seen your press release.
